Child Mortality in The Central African Rep.
A small boy at the Main hospital in Bangui - born prematurely and sick. Many of the children admitted wont survive their ilnesses unless helped by intl organisation due to the poverty in the country. The central African rep. has some of the world’s worst child welfare indicators. The infant mortality rate is 112, and out of 1,000 children born in CAR, 171 will die before reaching the age of five. The five main child killers in CAR are malaria, diarrhoea, acute respiratory infections, malnutrition and measles – all preventable diseases. The Accelerated Child Survival and Development Strategy UNICEF is implementing aims to reach every newborn and child in every district with a set of priority interventions. Evidence shows that there are a number of known and affordable interventions that if implemented fully could prevent 63 per cent of current childhood mortality.
