Dr Catherine Hamlin, 86, is attending a patient in her Hamlin Fistula Hospital, Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. Dr Hamlin founded the hospital 1974 after realizing the immense problem of birth injuries due to fistula in the country. It is estimated that more than 100 000 women suffer from incontinence after obstructed labour. The hospital has helped more than 40 000 women so far - Dr Hamlin is still doing operations today. 2009 she was awarded the Alternative Nobel Prize.
